other duties

The career of William Moody in WWE extended far beyond his on-camera appearances as Paul Bearer. He really did act as a manager for his charges – a job he took quite seriously. He loved to have control of situations and left nothing to chance, yet he still knew how to have fun. He was beloved throughout the organization, and the powers-that-be were always coming up with new ways to utilize his skills.

the gorilla position

Named after WWE Hall of Famer Gorilla Monsoon, who assumed this role for countless years, this is considered one of the most important (thus, most stressful) of all duties within the company. You are basically the stage manager, and the success of the show is squarely placed upon your shoulders.

Without a doubt, it was the highest pressured job I had during my years with the company.

Moody was meticulous with details and a great communicator. He did extremely well, as you might imagine – few knew the business as well as he did. But this position did not last long, as he would leave WWE for a short time to take care of his wife back home.

TALENT DEVELOPMENT

Moody really enjoyed discovering and developing new talents. As a manager with decades of experience, this was where his heart always was, and few did it better. So, when he was taken off the road, one of the duties he enjoyed more than anything was a talent scout for WWE. He scoured independent groups all across the United States, forging new relationships along the way.

I assisted in the federation’s Talent Development department, where I scouted future ring talent, several of which are on the top of WWE's active roster today.

One of the young wrestlers he saw immense potential in was a muscular, personable and respectful man with the “it” factor named John Cena.

FULL METAL: THE ALBUM

I recall, it was taken in 1995 at a recording studio in New York City. I don't think it is necessary to identify those in the shot. We were there recording some tracks for a WWF Album called "Full Metal: The Album. I do remember that it was released widely in Europe. I don't know if it was sold in the States or not.

We recorded two tracks, "We're All Together Now" and "Thorn in Your Eye." Yes, we all actually sang the words along with heavy metal artists Jon Oliva, lead singer of Savatage (I think that is him in the photo with us) guitarist Scott Ian from Anthrax and bassist Gary Meskil of Pro-Pain. The two songs were used on WWF television for a couple of years. If you were a fan back then, you definitely heard them, you just didn't know who the vocalists were. Now you do!

VIDEO GAMES

I was in the studios with WWE-THQ producers doing voiceovers for a video game project. This is some new and exciting business.

He had involvement in THQ WWE Legends of WrestleMania. WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011. WWE All Stars, WWE ’13, WWE 2K14. The Paul Bearer character was used in numerous games thereafter. Due to the supernatural qualities of Bearer, he can appear as a ghost.

personal appearances

Over the years, Paul Bearer was one of the most popular figures at WWE WrestleMania FanFest. He was never shy or stand-offish in any way, as you might expect, and he consistently gave fans what they expected when they met the mysterious mortician.

In later years, Percy Pringle was a very in-demand personality at autograph fairs. It was a chance for him to catch up with old friends, but also a time for him to chat with fans unencumbered by the Paul Bearer character constraints.
